Bereavement Services
The death of a loved one is the most profound emotional experience most of us will ever have to endure. Although friends and family members may be very supportive following a death, there are times when society seems to feel the grieving person should be ready to "return to normal." This may happen long before one's journey through the grief process has been completed.

Hospice & Home Care of Alexander County, Inc. provides bereavement services to anyone in Alexander County grieving the loss of someone close, whether that person was a Hospice patient or not. These services are available for adults, teens and children, and are offered free of charge.

Bereavement services offer emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual support to assist with issues related to grief, loss and adjustment both before and after the death of a hospice patient. Services begin as soon as the patient is admitted to the hospice program, and continue for up to 13 months after the death.

GRIEF COUNSELING • Grief counselors and trained volunteers provide individual counseling, family meetings, home visits and telephone contact as needed.

GRIEF SUPPORT IN SCHOOLS • Hospice & Home Care of Alexander County, Inc., in collaboration with the Alexander County School System, provides support for grieving children. Our staff works closely with the counselors and principals in each school to offer support and special counseling to identified children who are working through grief and loss of a loved one. The grief counseling is provided in small group settings with counselors and/or individually with children.
